Class Descriptions

General I and II classes are a combination class for our youngest dancers ages 3-5.  With a half hour of tap and half hour of ballet, this class focuses on technique and rhythm. While developing the discipline for dance, we provide a healthy nurturing environment for young minds.
Attire: black leotard (any style), pink tights, tan tap shoes, pink ballet slippers. No detachable ballet skirts  (only short ballet skirts attached to leotards)

Ballet and pointe classes focus on technique and discipline.  All students are encouraged to take ballet classes along with their other weekly classes.  Ballet classes are required when a student participates in our competition teams.
Attire: black leotard (any style), pink tights, pink split-sole ballet slippers (leather or canvas), ballet skirt or dance shorts (depending on instructor.)

In tap class we make rhythm and percussive sounds with our shoes, while still incorporating technique.
Attire: black leotard (any style), black jazz pants or shorts, tan oxford tap shoes

Jazz dance is a faster moving style of dance, still incorporating ballet technique, but dancing to popular music.
Attire: black leotard (any style), black jazz pants or shorts, tan split-sole jazz oxfords or split-sole, slip-on jazz shoes

Contemporary dance borrows the styles of jazz, ballet and modern dance.  Contemporary dance uses strong legwork and core control, therefore all of our contemporary students are encouraged to take ballet classes as well.
Attire: black leotard (any style), black jazz pants or shorts, foot undies or no shoes

Lyrical dance is best described by dancing to the lyrics of music in order to tell a story.  Lyrical dance is a combination of ballet and jazz.
Attire: black leotard (any style), black jazz pants or shorts, foot undies or no shoes

Acro class focuses on core control and distorting the body.  While we do learn some gymnastic moves, we focus the class on stretching and manipulating the body beyond it’s normal rotation.
Attire: black leotard (any style), black jazz pants or shorts, no shoes

Hip Hop class is the most free flowing class that we offer.  It is derived from street or urban movies which are danced to hip-hop music.
Attire: black leotard (any style), black jazz pants or shorts, hip hop sneakers
